Freykja was a Nordlandian woman who became the first female champion of Haltyr, the god of war, and primary god of the Nordlanders. One does not receive Haltyr's blessing to become strong. He does not grant boons to those who worship him. Instead he rewards displays of strength and fairness. For him to consider making someone a champion of his, that person must have done great deeds and achieved great things. Only then would they be worthy. Many warriors desired to become champion, but only very few actually do, and loosing the title is easy.
Freykja has earned her title as champion. She is the Feathered Lady, the Mistress of the Second Moon, the Champion of the Winter Constellation. And not only that, she also gained Haltyr's love. The two became lovers. And during that time, Freykja's power grew to the level of a demigodess. It must be emphasized that she managed this on her own, Haltyr did not help her, nor did she expect it. But her relationship with him eventually became known and people became envious, claiming she only got so powerful because she was Haltyr's concubine. Since Haltyr never tried to do anything about it, she eventually ended the relatioship to silence the grudgers.
Unfortunately Haltyr didn't take that very well. In a fit of hurt pride he made sure to purge Freykja from history, forbade the Nordlanders to tell her stories and sing her songs, so she would eventually be forgotten. This was uncharacteristic of Haltyr, as it is exactly the kind of he behavior he normally does not condone, acting out of pride and such.
He eventually regretted it, but it was too late, the damage was done. And although he tried to make amends, she never forgave him, because although he tried to apologize, he never even tried to undo what he did.
That is, until a certain "bard" dressed him down properly, who then took it upon herself to make Freykja's songs known again.
Verse:
Feathered Lady, bold and strong;
Your deeds of might inspired song.
You faced the frost, the war, the flame;
And carved your place in Hall of Fame.
Mistress of the Second Moon;
Champion crowned beneath the rune.
No gift you sought, no boon you prayed;
Your strength alone the path you made.
Chorus:
Your stories may be heard once more;
Your songs shall ring as once before.
Forgotten not, your name shall rise;
A blazing star in winter skies.
Verse:
But envy struck, and tongues did turn;
From whispered doubt, your honor burned.
Haltyr, hurt by pride’s cruel sting;
Cast shadow o’er the gift you bring.
The tales grew faint, the songs grew cold;
The god’s decree, your name unsold.
Though mighty still, your legacy veiled;
A voice once strong, now silence hailed.
Chorus:
Your stories may be heard once more;
Your songs shall ring as once before.
Forgotten not, your name shall rise;
A blazing star in winter skies.
Bridge:
The Bard arose, with heart so true;
To shame the god for what he'd do.
"Undo the chains, let silence break;
Restore her name for honor’s sake."
Chorus:
Your stories may be heard once more;
Your songs shall ring as once before.
Forgotten not, your name shall rise;
A blazing star in winter skies.
