Just Like It Used To Be

Bjornulf Eiversson was a renowned warrior and hero who had gained great fame among the people. When, after many years, he finally returned to his hometown, he felt that he was no longer one of the people he grew up with. Instead of welcoming him as one of theirs, the crowd parted before him, the people lowering their heads in respect and admiration. But this was not what Bjornulf desired. More and more, he felt distant, isolated and lonely. Until he eventually broke down in front of the people, begging them to stop treating him like a hero, and instead treat him like they used to, as one of theirs. To feast with him, to share their mead, to laugh and cry with him, to just let everything go back to before, just like it used to be.

Lyrics English

Verse:
Through storm and fire, did I carve my path;
With steel and courage, did I faced their wrath.
The songs they do sing, of deeds I’ve done;
But my own eyes, I know I stand alone.

The halls are bursting with cheers and with praise;
Yet all I know is that I miss the days.
When bonds were strong, and when my heart was free;
Not bound was I by tales of destiny.

Chorus:
Feast with me, drink with me;
Dance with me, sing with me;
Joke with me, rise with me;
Just like it used to be.

Laugh with me, cry with me;
Stand side by side with me;
Ride with me, sail with me;
Just like it used to be.

Verse:
Fast flows the mead and bright the torches glow;
Yet shadows linger wherever I go.
No crown I seek, no throne I wish to claim:
Just kindred spirits, not glory, not fame.

My strength I offered, my shield, sword and hand;
A stranger am I now in my own homeland.
No joy can fill this most hollow of thrones;
When kin and laughter feel far and unknown.

Chorus:
Feast with me, drink with me;
Dance with me, sing with me;
Joke with me, rise with me;
Just like it used to be.

Laugh with me, cry with me;
Stand side by side with me;
Ride with me, sail with me;
Just like it used to be.

Bridge:
No hero’s crown, no golden hall;
Can bring me peace or break this wall.
Oh, hear my cry, oh, take my hand;
Restore the bonds, let friendship mend.

Chorus:
Feast with me, drink with me;
Dance with me, sing with me;
Joke with me, rise with me;
Just like it used to be.

Laugh with me, cry with me;
Stand side by side with me;
Ride with me, sail with me;
Just like it used to be.
